The goal of the Day 1 program is to get the newly hired operator some fundamental basic training on the tow truck and the equipment being used. Understanding that free information is readily available in the DIY world we live in, it is crucial that the source you use is highly experienced and qualified to educate. Even though some of these sources are experienced operators, they often times do not have the perspective of an owner or someone who has direct financial liability. This is a one stop training platform that provides instruction and education from an experienced and qualified perspective while incorporating education on applicable federal guidelines for safe and legal operation.
We will cover working load limits, identification of tools and equipment, and basic hook up using various styles of wrecker bodies to include car carrier, wheel lift, sling and dollies. We know that there are laws and regulations that are not consistent around the country or around the world. With that in mind periodically throughout the course the student is advised to check with their owner or manager to find out what company policy or laws are pertaining to that specific subject.
Overall, this training is designed as a starting point for new tow truck operators and does not serve as a complete guide for the towing professional. Once this course is completed it is recommended that a company owner, manager or trainer continues with the new operator completing hands on training in real scenarios until it is determined that the new operator can successfully do the job without supervision.
